Genre Mixology

It was the first night of book club, and as we went around in a circle introducing ourselves, we shared our favorite genres. I sipped my wine, preparing for what I would share. I considered how most of my favorite literary experiences have been more of a cocktail of genres - combined well.

The overarching elements that rotate through my TBR list are: atmospheric, suspenseful, historical, and women's fiction. When each of those genre ingredients are combined into one book, the results are delicious!

Let's play a game. What drink best represents some books you've read? I'll go first:

Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens  - Arnold Palmer with Bourbon

Part luscious landscape and love story, part deep south tea, and a shot of complex mystery.

God of The Woods by Liz Moore - Smoked Old Fashioned

Combining the campfire taste of a summer camp setting with the bitter sadness of a broken family, an orange peel for the array of colorful characters, and finally, another shot of complex mystery.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë  - Malbec

Robust characters who live and love with bitter loss.

Here's to many delicious literary concoctions!
