Bucket Lists

On a date night, two years ago, my husband and I faced the reality that time was running out.

We were homeschooling our four children, but our oldest would begin his freshman year at our local beachside high school that fall. The carefree days of off-season travel were now at an end. With that, it would only be four years until our son would launch into the world as an adult.

    We panicked.

There were too many things on the "someday" bucket list. Now was the time to get those dreams out of our imaginations and onto the calendar, as our time as a family of six was quickly slipping away.

One of the items on that list was a cruise. It was our family Christmas gift and we journeyed the waters of the Caribbean on the Oasis of the Seas over Spring Break.

While my children enjoyed the amenities this ship offered (and there were many), I loved our day off the ship in Jamaica where we tubed down a white water river with a local guide. We bought a waterproof disposable camera - which my daughter said made our pictures look like they were from "the 1900s".

I love seeing our children experience new places, food, and culture. I love watching them learn through experiences, and then relate those to their daily lives. I love seeing their world expand as they better understand other ways of life. I love the memories and laughter that all of these adventures bring.

It doesn't feel that long ago when Ben and I wondered what our future family would look like, and now their full personas are forming right before our eyes.

While the other bucket list items may not be as glamorous or exotic, we'll be over here working through that list until these not-so-little chicks fly the coop.

Oh, and a perk for this momma - all the reading time.

...and I mayyyy have squeezed in a little writing too.
